Summer activities in the region
Are you curious about what there is to do in the summer around our accommodation? Well, sit down for a moment, because there are plenty of activities for everyone.
Not many people are familiar with the Beaujolais Vert, the western side of the Beaujolais. This is located just outside the wine regions and is somewhat more mountainous. The altitude here goes up to about 900m. Courcenay itself is located at an altitude of 500m. This gives beautiful views from many places.
The weather here is actually ideal for us and our guests who often come with dog(s). It is never really too hot in spring, summer and autumn, but the weather is nice. Then you can at least do something and you don't have to lie in the pool all day.
Activities in the region:
Around and on Lac des Sapins: there is a lot to do here, such as sailing, horse riding, abseiling, climbing, walking and swimming of course.
Walking: From Courcenay you can go straight into the forest or the fields in different directions. There are many well-marked walks in the vicinity, with something for everyone. Do take into account some differences in height, there are only a few roads/paths that are flat.
Canoeing on the Loire: The Loire near Roanne is a calm and shallow river, which is wonderful for canoeing. There are a few places where you can rent a canoe along the river.
Cycling: For the more athletic cyclists or people with an e-bike, there is plenty of cycling to do here. If you are less athletic and do not have an e-bike (it is quite hilly here), no problem. At the Giant store in Thizy you can rent an e-bike and still enjoy the surroundings by bike. If you get on your bike from Roanne, you can cycle along the Loire. An old railway line has been converted into a cycle path and so you can cycle on a beautiful flat route for as long as you want.
Shopping in Roanne: Don't feel like being active every day? Go shopping in Roanne! Roanne has a nice car-free center with nice shops and for a break there are beautiful squares and terraces.
Wine tour in the Beaujolais or Roannais: Courcenay is located exactly between two wine regions. To the east you will find the Beaujolais wines (and there is really more to be found there than the primeur) and just to the west of Roanne you will find the Roannais, an emerging wine region where beautiful wines are also made. A wine route has been set out in both wine regions and you can go tasting at many wineries, where you can get a good explanation and often a nice tour.
